Coral Studies Show Sea Levels Can Rise

6 – Coral Reefs

Daniella Almanza

Studies are being done by coral specialist Dr. Paul Blanchon in Xcaret, a resort and water park in Mexico, to possibly underline the potential for a jump in sea levels because of global warming. By looking at these fossilized corals in Mexico, Dr. Blanchon has been able to collect much data to prove his thesis. This study suggests that a rise of 6.5 feet to 10 feet last occurred in a span of 50 to 100 years about 121,000 years ago. And 121,000 years ago marks the end of the last warm interval between the ice ages. Since this evidence was found and happened somewhat recently, why wouldn’t it be able to occur again?
