India’s Forest Area in Doubt

India’s official surveys state that the protection of their forests ia a success. India is trying to conserve its forets, but due to the growing demads in timber and agricultrural land it is hard. But a senior official responsible for assessing the health of the nation’s forests says that recent surveys have overestimated the extent of the remaining forests. Ranjit Gill claims that trees have been illegally cut down from the forests to be used for personal needs. He says that only satellite monitoring of the forests makes it easy for thieves to steal without getting noticed. Gill states that if something is not done quickly India might lose many of their forests altogether.
