Factories in China have recently been caught taking advantage of a UN initiative to combat global warming. The legislation the UN passed created a system whereby each gas was rated according to how much it contributed to global warming. The UN would then give carbon credits to any enterprise that cut production of these gases and the more dangerous the gas, the more credits the company would receive. What factories in China and all over the world have discovered is that if they start producing more of a certain byproduct and then destroy it, they will receive many more carbon credits than if they just cut CO2 emissions.
