Forest loggers join world’s biggest ecology experiment

Ecologists around the world are joining forces with rainforest loggers to conduct an experiment on a massive scale. The proposal entails a Malaysian logging company dispatching 75,000 hectares of rainforest in Borneo and converting it to a palm oil plantation. The researchers will take advantage of this massive clearing to study the ecological effects of habitat fragmentation, and, ironically, gain some insight on how to design a landscape that meets both ecological and commercial demands.
