This article discusses Mexico’s consumption of bottled water. Mexico is the world’s largest per capita consumer of bottled water. The nation’s large consumption of bottled water is largely due to the lack clean, safe-to-use freshwater. Much of the tap water is contaminated with mud, silt, or bacteria. The Inter-American Development Bank estimated that each person in Mexico consumes 127 gallons of bottled water each year. People are now using bottled water to bathe their children and cook food. Unfortunately, the water crisis in Mexico has become so severe that people have resorted to peddling water in the streets.
