Greenland’s Isolated Glaciers Melting Quickly

The glaciers in Greenland are melting and causing the sea level to rise b 10%. These glaciers are independent for the main ice sheet and make up only 5-7% of Greenland’s total ice coverage but are 20% of Greenland’s contribution to sea level rise. Since the glaciers are smaller than the ice sheets, they lose ice 2.5 times faster than the ice sheet does. A study found that between 2003 and 2008, 12 cubic miles of water entered the ocean from the melting of the isolated glaciers.
