The beaches in Los Angeles County are some of the dirtiest in the state. If you enter the water you can develop pink eye, diarrhea, and a fever. About 1.8 million people develop stomach problems each year from entering this water. It is heavily polluted because when it rains, runoff brings heavy metals, pesticides, cigarette butts, animal waste and other pollutants into the streams and rivers. You can see plastics and water bottles floating in the water as well as car oil. This water has become undrinkable. California is trying to develop a way to harvest rain water but it tends to be very costly. It is clear however that something must be done to clean these bodies of water.
