The 7.3 magnitude earthquake aftershock has triggered new landslides on slopes which were already weakened by the earthquake on April 25th. Scientists from the United States and the United Kingdom have already detected 3,000 landslides from satellite images since the first initial earthquake occurred. Sadly, these scientist predict that many more are to be followed from this earthquake aftershock. Today at least 37 people were killed and more than 1,100 were injured.
This most recent earthquake destroyed houses and lodges near Mount Everest however, local officials said that most of the tourist were not in the region. Nepal’s main highways: one going to Tibet and the other one from Kathmandu to India) are blocked by fresh rockfalls. Monsoon season is this arriving June, therefore the slopes will be very unstable thus created a higher risk of landslides.
