Florida Citi Bike program spreads to Coconut Grove & Miami Beach

Patricio Salvidea

The Citi Bike sharing program began in Florida in 2011, Starting in November they will add 750 new bikes and 70 new stations. Previously, they had 1,000 bikes and only 100 stations. They are going to be placed in Coconut Grove and Miami Beach. Citi Bank, itself will sponsor the program for a minimum of five years; after that, a rental company named DecoBike will take over the program.

This system of network increases a healthy, convenient and sustainable way for people to travel around the city. The one drawback that the Citi Bikes have is that the program has been traveling to bankruptcy with multiple operational problems, beginning in May, 2013. Citi is hoping that when DecoBike takes over this issue will be eliminated.
