In Australia, Senators have called for the immediate banning of the use of micro beads in certain products such as lotions and shampoos. These Microbeads are a huge problem, and it can very easily be taken care of. What happens is, these micro beads and plastics accumulate and damage the environment as well as different species of micro-organisms. The plankton dying from this plastic accumulation hurt the food chain, because it kills them as well as many other organisms. With this buildup of these plastics and other garbage, it is scientifically proven that it is equivalent of dropping one dump truck in the ocean per minute. By 2040, it is supposed to be around four dump trucks per minute. The Senator and many in the country have agreed to stop this immediately, but it is not that easy. The US and Canada are also making efforts to stop the usage of micro beads.
I think that what is happening is very sad, because the amount of trash in the ocean is over the limit. If the microbeads are banned, we still have a large amount of work ahead to make sure that our oceans are cleaner, but it is a large step in the right direction.
