The Yakura Dam Reservoir in Japan is planning on building 50,904 panels that will float on top of the reservoir. These panels will be able to generate enough panels to power 5,000 homes. Such developments have come with the huge growth in the solar market in recent years. These floating solar arrays have numerous advantages that their counterparts on the land do not. For one, there’s no need to to rent or buy land (which is more expensive) and there are fewer regulations for structures built on water than land. Moreover, they help keep the water from evaporating, which may attract those states struggling with droughts.
